For most of human history women who have been indiscreet have sought herbal or mechanical means of aborting their babies so that they can avoid the consequence of pregnancy. Since God gives life, one can see where Satan might be inclined to set in motion forces to take it.

It is a testimony to the skill of Satan that he can get so many women passionate about having the 'right' to kill their children. Perhaps a portion of those so vehement are drawn from college girls who are seduced as naive young freshmen a couple of months into their college experience only to find themselves dumped and pregnant. Many of these who shamefully sought abortions would then feel bitter about so being used and grateful for the opportunity to hide their shame.

The sequential path of ignorance, deception, and exploitation is often used by Satan to direct people in the path he would have them go. If a person is embroiled in a difficulty, Satan can offer a way out that appears to solve their problem. However, such solutions only create further problems.

The children that are produced as a result of human reproduction are intended by God by necessity to draw us out from the natural selfishness of our own childhood into the adult world where living for others opens a deeper world of selflessness (love) to us. This is one of the strongest ways God has of drawing us to seek him. This is why the relationship he desires with us is often described in parental terms.

There is a category of contraceptive devices and apparatus called 'barriers'. These tools are useful for those whose desire to experience pleasure without apparent consequence. What is often under-appreciated is the degree such reinforcement of selfish inclination delays and even prevents the development of maturity. In a way, the focus on selfishness approaches the deleterious effects seen with alcoholism and drug abuse.

The most popular method of birth control is the use of oral contraceptives. While originally introduced with a promise of preventing ovulation, their effective mechanism is the prevention of embryo implantation resulting from a thicker mucosal lining of the uterus. This provides a mechanism for abortion many times higher than the number of surgical abortions. While many people (even Christians) are willfully ignorant of the consequences of using such products, they contribute to judgment that comes on a land resulting from the shedding of innocent blood.
