Christianity was supposed to be about becoming like Jesus. We went in the wrong direction.

Supernatural Learning

How many students in attempting to prepare for an examination would wish that there was some supernatural way they could learn the material. Christians actually can receive knowledge, understanding, and wisdom in answer to prayer;

Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, - Ephesians 1:15-18

For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; - Colossians 1:9-10

One has to ask if such bountiful advantages are available to Christians, why aren’t all Christians demonstrating these qualities. The answer is in several parts.

1. Worldliness. Wisdom, knowledge, and understanding can seem abstract and even be a hindrance to those who value worldly involvement (2Tim 4:10).

2. The Flesh. The bible describes our natural inclinations to be in contention with the work the Holy Spirit would perform in us (Gal 5:16-17).

3. Peer Acceptance. Those who are of the world do not like those who come closer to God (John 15:19)

4. Denominational Indoctrination. Many Christians limit their Christian life to just those activities required by their denomination.

5. False Christians. Some who profess Christianity do so mistakenly having been told that they are Christian when it may not be the case.

Christians become handicapped through a combination of ignorance, placing greater value on the world and the flesh, and wanting to avoid that which sounds unusual. Christianity is supposed to be about transformative growth (Christ-likeness). As we become more humble (James 4:6), mortify the deeds of the flesh (Rom 8:13), and allow Gods word to work in us (Col 3:16), we can receive more of what God would give us. Sadly most Christian practice does not alow for this sort of individual growth.

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. - Colossians 3:1
